The way your child learns, plays, acts and speaks offer important clues about your child's development. Select your child's age and see how your child is progressing with our checklist (referenced from CDC's Developmental Milestones).

Age 1

  • Explores things in different ways, like shaking, banging, throwing
  • Looks at the right object when it is named
  • Copies gestures they see
  • Starts to use common things correctly (like drinking from a cup)
  • Follows simple instructions like "sit here"

Age 2

  • Knows the difference between shapes and colours
  • Completes sentences in familiar books
  • Can name objects like ‘cat’ or ‘ball’
  • Starts showing signs of being left or right handed
  • Follows two-step instructions such as “Drink water and go to bed”

Age 3

  • Can work toys with buttons, levers and moving parts
  • Plays make-believe with dolls, animals and people
  • Copies shapes with pencils or crayons
  • Turns book pages one at a time
  • Can turn door handles

Age 4

  • Names some colours and some numbers
  • Understands the concept of counting
  • Starts to understand time
  • Remembers parts of a story or experience
  • Can use scissors correctly

Age 5

  • Can count more than 10 things
  • Can draw a person with at least 6 body parts
  • Can write some letters or numbers
  • Copies a triangle and other geometric shapes
  • Knows the importance of everyday things like money and food
